Decoupage ideas: bunny jar

This is one of my latest decoupage projects I really love. It’s decoupage on glass with a napkin. It’s a bunny jar.

bunny far

This is a larger size glass jar. It used to lay around in the barn. I cleaned it and decoupaged with bunny napkin.

Here is a quick decoupage on glass tutorial:

– Repaint the glass jar first with acrylic paint. It’s really hard to decoupage on glass, if you do not paint it first. The napkins soak up fast and get easily torn.

– Once the paint dries up, you can start decoupaging. I use transparent furniture polish instead of glue. First I sparingly apply the polish onto the painted glass. Then I put the napkin on and add more polish to get it stick to the jar.

bunny jar2

As you may see here, I have made a little dint in the napkin right above the rabbit. Later on I dubbed it with little bit of white paint.

– Finally, you cover up the entire jar with more polish. It makes it hard to damage the decoupage and you can wash it.

I have also decoupaged the metal lid of the jar.

I have also repainted it before decoupaging. Then I added a ribbon as a final touch. Now I store sugar in this decoupaged glass jar. Follow me on Pinterest and check out my Etsy store.

Kitchen crafts: glass and wood decoupage ideas

There are many things you can craft for your kitchen to make it cosy and stylish. I love shabby chic or cottage chic styles. So, I try to craft things for my kitchen in soft colors. Here are two of my decoupage projects: decoupaged glass bottle vase and decoupaged wooden cutting board.

decoupage on glass and decouapge on wood

I used the same color vanila paint for both items. Both of these are usable crafts. The cutting board has the other side, where I can cut thing on. Only one side of it is decoupaged. And it is washable, too. I had to put several layers of polish on the wooden board and now I can wash and even lightly scrub it.

I have made another cutting board over a year ago and it is still in use and the decoupaged surface was not damaged by water. I do use a lot.

Decoupage on wood is easy to do. Here is a quick how to:

I painted one side of the cutting board with acrylic paint. Let it dry. Then I applied the napkin patterns using transparent acrylic furniture polish. Once it has dried up, I shaded the board a bit with acrylic silver paint and put several layers of polish.

Decoupage on glass: recycled glass bottle vase

I really love to upcycle or recycle glass bottles. Most people throw them away, so I ask them to donate the bottles to me and give them a new life.

In this particular glass bottle vase I have put two layers of decoupage to create texture on the bottle. Here is my quick tutorial.

First, I painted the bottle. Then I used pieces of old napkins to decoupage it with. Once they dried up, I have repainted the bottle once more. This created a soft texture underneace the paint.

Then I decoupaged the glass bottle vase with apple napkin and covered it with polish.

I have also used organic fiber rope to decorate the bottle. And I made rolled fabric flowers to decorate both the rope on the bottle and to make flowers for this decoupaged glass bottle vase.

Easter fabric crocheted basket

This is a very cute and sweet looking Easter fabric crocheted basket. Easter egg basket is not the only use for it. You can store your candies, fruit or other things in it. You can use it to store your jewelry or crafting supplies. Or, you could go shopping with it.

The size of this Easter fabric crocheted basket is 6 by 10 inches. It is totally go green project. I have used an old curtain and a piece of old brown flower pattern fabric to make the yarn for the rug basket. I have also used an old bag handle to upcycle it and make the basket handle.

13 handmade and recycled kitchen storage ideas

There are many things in your kitchen or your crafting supplies you need to store. The trick is to make the storage usable, functional and cute at the same time. I use lots of things people usually throw away, but I upcycle and repurpose them and turn them into cute and useful items. Here is my collection of storage ideas for crafting and for kitchen.

Upcycled cans

Here are two recycled cans turned into storage containers. The first one is an old coffee can. I have  repainted it and decoupaged it with rosebuds. You can store anything in here starting with baking soda (Usually I buy baking soda in paper packs and transfer it into cans as it soaks up the moist and does not store well in paper) and ending up with spices, salt or sugar. You may find a tutorial here.

The next one  is an olive’ can turned into a storage place for my crocheting hooks. I used to have trouble finding them around the house and now I keep them all in one place. This can is covered with fabric and lace.

Baskets

These two baskets or bowls are made out of rope. The tiny one is crocheted over with yarn. It’s really easy to make, if you crochet just a little.

This bowls is rolled out of rope. I used hot glue gun to make it. It takes about 10 min to make one. I also cut out a part of plastic bottle and decoupaged it. So, now this bowl can be used as a flower pot.

The next one is made out of recycled plastic paint can. I have decoupaged it and decorated with lace in shabby chic style. Here is a quick tutorial on it. I use this basket to store my crafting supplies.

The next one is made out of recycled plastic bottles. Here is the link to the post. It’s a small basket which can be used as a jewelry box, but I store beads and other small crafting supplies in it.

The next comes a crocheted bowl. I had some yarn leftovers and decided to make a small bowl. One may put fruit in it or store other small things in the kitchen.

Bottles

This far I have decoupaged tons of glass bottles. I use them for storing cooking oil, as it is much healthier to store it in glass instead of plastic. You may find more pictures on the Decoupage projects blog page.

Lace and ribbon storage

I do not know about you, but I had trouble storing lace or ribbons. They’d get all tangled up and I had hard time getting apart. So, I decided to make some sort of storage for lace and ribbons and upcycled two things. The first lace roll is made out of old wooden stick out of vintage bed.

Tea house

This is a cute recycling project. I have made this tea house for storing tea bags out of plastic bottles. The lower part is made out of plastic bottle decoupaged over with napkins and decorated with lace. The top part is also made out of plastic bottle filled with foam, decoupaged and decorated with lace and ribbon flowers.

More upcycling and decoupage ideas

I love to repurpose things and decoupage provides me with the easy way of doing so. In this post you’ll see two decoupage ideas: decoupage on trays and recycled tile.

plastic tray decoupage

plastic tray decoupage

I got two plastic and ugly green color trays at the flea market just for 50 cents. But they are perfect for decoupage. This one I have decoupaged with sunflowers. I can use it for serving food or carrying plates, but I love it on the shelf, too.

Here is the other decoupage idea on a tray, so to say:

plastic tray decoupage

plastic tray decoupage

It’s the same type of tray as the first one and I decoupaged it as a spring gift for one lady. It’s a sort of shabby chic style in decouapge. It’s a pity I did not have the crackle polish for it though.

So, here is a quick tray decoupage tutorial:

The difficulty with these trays is that the plastic is “slipery” so to say and the paint easily falls off of it. You may rub it with the sand paper first. I repainted the trays in white using acrylic paint.

Then I decoupaged them and covered with transparent polish. The rose tray, I did not like to leave it just white, so I dippied a napkin in some coffee and rubbed in onto the tray to make it look a bit old and shabby.

Finally, here is the recycled and decoupaged tile:

decoupaged and recycled tile

decoupaged and recycled tile

It’s a small and old tile about 2 by 4 inches. It was a white tile, so I did not paint it and just decoupaged it with the napkin. Then I covered it with two types of polish: the transparent and pearl ones.

Few weeks ago I bought this organic rope in the store. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I have already used it in many crafts. But I love this one. I just used hot glue gun to glue the rope around the tile and make a handle over it.

So, now I can hang it on the wall as a small picture, or I can glue a recipe onto it or use it as a picture frame. I have made 3 of such tiles and gave two of them away putting on the printed Bible verses. They do make nice little and very inexpensive gifts.

It’s a nice way to go green with these decoupage ideas. I  hope you enjoy them, pin them and share them on Facebook or Twitter.

Upcycling ideas: flower pots out of baby shoes and plastic bottles.

This is another great and cute upcycling idea. Here in Ukraine we plant onions in the spring at home to grow greens for our salads. It’s very easy, but usually these onion pots do not look good.

Yesterday I found old baby shoes. They are cute and I was sorry to throw them away, so I got this upcycling idea in my head: shoe flower pots. I made them out of plastic bottles. So, it’s another go green project.

Here is a quick tutorial on the shoe flower pot for you:

Find two plastic bottles of suitable sizes. Cut the tops out on the level you need to fit into the shoes. Fill them in with soil, water and plant your flowers or stick in the onions.

One of these shoe pots has an onion in it and I have planted basil into the other one.  Plus I have decorated them with rolled fabric flowers in shabby chic style. I used pieces of vintage photo album paper to adorn the upcycled shoe flower pots with leaves. So, this is totally go green easy project for you.

Decoupage ideas: pretty handmade spring gifts for women

Here are few pretty spring gifts I made for the March 8 day. These are cute little handmade gifts for women and I used decoupage technique or paper to craft them.

This is another glass bottle decoupage idea. This bottle is not only decoupaged with pink wild roses, but I also used some yarn and beads to decorate it. I have also made two tiny rolled ribbon roses for it.

This set you may find in my Etsy store recycledcrafting. It’s a small vintage Soviet pan decoupaged with roses and adorned with old lace. It can be used as a wall decor item or as a photo frame. It is coupled by decoupaged and upcycled coffee can.

decoupage ideas: pin cushion

decoupage ideas: pin cushion

This is an orange foam plastic pin cushion decoupaged with napkin. I like the foam cushions more than I like fabric ones. It’s easier to stick the pins into it and they get better secured there. If you drop such a pin cushion, only few pins if any would fall out of it. It’s really easy to make, too. And it makes a great handmade gift.

I hope you enjoyed by decoupaged ideas and spring projects. You are welcome to leave a comment.

Decoupage ideas: pink rosebud glass bottle

This is another one of my decoupage bottle projects. I simply love nice bottles and it’s a pity to throw them away. Decoupage gives them new life and allows you to make treasures from the trash.
