Decoupage on wood: old shoe trees into the wall art!

It’s been a while sinse I posted here. But I am back for a short post. For over 3 years I have been doing decoupage on wood and other surfaces and I still love it. I shopped on a flea market and found these:

old shoe trees

I got them both for a dollar and decided to turn into the wall art using decoupage and decor.

Here is what I got:

I painted them all over with white paint and then decoupaged. Covered with polsh and added few details and ornament, quite a few actually!

I also coupled them by an old peg (also decoupaged and decorated). Now I will use these on the wall above my shoe shelves.

They have undegone a complete transformation. Lovely pair of shabby chic decor items. The power of decoupage! It lets you give new life to old things and upcycle.

Decoupage on wood: spice mortar and pestle with poppy flowers

Recently I have fallen in love with poppy flowers. I have already posted my Ukraine stlyle poppy flower clip or head whreath you can buy in my Etsy shop. Poppy flowers are very Ukrainian. They grow freely on our fields.

!!! Ukraine facts: it is illegal to grow poppies in your yard or garden  in Ukraine. If you grow 1 to 100 plants, you get fine, if you grow more, you get to go to jail!!!

So now I have decided to use them in wood decoupage on spice mortar and pestle.

Spice mortar and pestle

It’s a small spice mortar with pestle made out of wood. As usual, I repainted it with white water based paint and let it dry. Then I cut out poppy flowers and glued them to the mortar. Finally I used green shiny paint and wood polish to cover it up. Now the pestle and mortar have become usable once again. But I think them very pretty, too.

It is washable and usable. You can grind your spices in it and wash it with hot water. This set makes great and authentic gift. You can find it in my Etsy shop for a very appealing price. Feel free to Pin away.

My new upcycling Easter egg project

Upcycling Easter egg

Upcycling Easter egg

This is a fun Easter egg with a stand. I have made the stand for the egg out of an old coffee can. So that is why it is an upcycling project. The can is made out of glass. So, first I pained it with waterbased white paint, let it dry and decoupaged it.

I used the wooden egg for this project. I painted it as well and made just a little decoupage in the middle of the Easter egg. The rest of the egg I deocrated with organic threads.

Old glass bottle into a candle stick – new decoupage project

It’s been a while since I posted new projects into my blog. I was really busy working and writing, as I am a copywriter. But I had some time to craft, too. Here is one of my little glass decoupage projects.

I have to admit that I have found this bottle somewhere on the lake bank. I live in a beautiful neighbourhood, but some people make this place a mess. I picked this bottle up and decided to make something special out of it.

The bottle is good, because it does not get turned over easily; it has a wide bottom. So, I decided to turn it into a candle holder. We need one because the do turn the lights off once in a while. BTW, I have found another similar bottle, but a bit smaller in size and I’ll make another candle holder out of it to match this one.

First, as usual I have painted the bottle with white acrylic paint. Then I added some blue shade into it and painted the bottle using a brush. I make upward strokes to add different colors and texture to the bottle. Finally I decoupaged it with spring flowers and covered with transparent polish. It’s a ten min project, if you use hairdryer to speed up the drying processes. But it looks nice. I have managed to turn a piece of trash into something useful and good-looking! Pin it, if you like it!

Decoupage ideas: French style glass bottle decoupage

I really love this glass bottle decoupage project. I got this little glass bottle with one flat side and it suggested a wonderful decoupage idea to me.

As you may see, the bottle has Eifel tower on its front side. I used a very nice vintage type of napkin for this decoupage idea.

I have also made a small leather bow for the bottle and attached a short chain with a little silver key to it. So, now I got a nice French style and vintage looking vase made out of recycled glass bottle with decoupage on it.

Decoupage ideas: bunny jar

This is one of my latest decoupage projects I really love. It’s decoupage on glass with a napkin. It’s a bunny jar.

bunny far

This is a larger size glass jar. It used to lay around in the barn. I cleaned it and decoupaged with bunny napkin.

Here is a quick decoupage on glass tutorial:

– Repaint the glass jar first with acrylic paint. It’s really hard to decoupage on glass, if you do not paint it first. The napkins soak up fast and get easily torn.

– Once the paint dries up, you can start decoupaging. I use transparent furniture polish instead of glue. First I sparingly apply the polish onto the painted glass. Then I put the napkin on and add more polish to get it stick to the jar.

As you may see here, I have made a little dint in the napkin right above the rabbit. Later on I dubbed it with little bit of white paint.

– Finally, you cover up the entire jar with more polish. It makes it hard to damage the decoupage and you can wash it.

I have also decoupaged the metal lid of the jar.

I have also repainted it before decoupaging. Then I added a ribbon as a final touch. Now I store sugar in this decoupaged glass jar. Follow me on Pinterest and check out my Etsy store.

Victorian style wall art

Here is my new upcycling project. It is a Victorian style wall art piece.

It’s Victorian style shoe image printed out on a piece of fabric. It is a totally go green project. I have used old shirt fabric to print the shoe on.

Here is what I used for the frame

It’s a lid of the plastic paint can I used for a planter.

I have decoupaged the lid with old book pages. Then I used hot glue gun to cover the edges with fabric and vintage lace. And I glued the fabric shoe image onto it. Then I made rolled fabric flowers and leather and chain buckle for the wall art shoe.

This was I sort of made a 3D wall art image printed on fabric. It looks really lovely on the wall. Check out my facebook page to find more crafting inspiration.

Recycled crafts: planters ideas

If you like growing plants in your home or outdoors, you need lots of planters. The good thing is that you can easily upcycle, recycle or decorate many things to turn them into planters. Or you can get some cheap and ugly planters and decorate them. Here are few ideas on containers or planters I have decorated or made.

recycled planterq

This was a plastic paint can. Plus, it was cracked in the bottom. I have used a piece of vintage fabric from my grandma’s attic for decoration. I glued it onto the container using a hot glue gun. Then I made some rolled fabric flowers and used a ribbon for decoration. The cracked bottom is not a problem, if you keep the planter outdoors. This is a great way to remove excessive water from the recycled planter. It’s an easy way to go green.

fabric flowers

fabric flowers coiled rope planter

This is organic rope and I made a coiled rope basket out of it. Then I have cut the bottom part of a plastic bottle, decoupaged it and inserted it inside the basket. So, now it’s a planter.

THese are the old baby shoes I was sorry to throw away. So, again I used plastic bottles to turn them into planters.

This is a collection of the go green planters. The ones on the left are made out of milk packages. The ones in the middle are two cracked cups. The one on the right is a regular flower pot. I was ugly and brown. It’s a cheap planter. So, I decoupaged it and crocheted the edges over with some organic rope.

Here is another example of how you can transform a simple flower pot into a nice looking one using decoupage.

As you may see, there are many things you can turn into planters. Check out my Pinerest Gardening board for more ideas.
