Decoupage ideas: pretty handmade spring gifts for women

Here are few pretty spring gifts I made for the March 8 day. These are cute little handmade gifts for women and I used decoupage technique or paper to craft them.

Decoupage ideas: foam heart

This is a small foam heart on a stick. It is a foam plastic heart decoupaged and it has a candy attached to the stem.

This is another glass bottle decoupage idea. This bottle is not only decoupaged with pink wild roses, but I also used some yarn and beads to decorate it. I have also made two tiny rolled ribbon roses for it.

This set you may find in my Etsy store recycledcrafting. It’s a small vintage Soviet pan decoupaged with roses and adorned with old lace. It can be used as a wall decor item or as a photo frame. It is coupled by decoupaged and upcycled coffee can.

decoupage ideas: pin cushion

decoupage ideas: pin cushion

This is an orange foam plastic pin cushion decoupaged with napkin. I like the foam cushions more than I like fabric ones. It’s easier to stick the pins into it and they get better secured there. If you drop such a pin cushion, only few pins if any would fall out of it. It’s really easy to make, too. And it makes a great handmade gift.

I hope you enjoyed by decoupaged ideas and spring projects. You are welcome to leave a comment.

Decoupage ideas: pink rosebud glass bottle

This is another one of my decoupage bottle projects. I simply love nice bottles and it’s a pity to throw them away. Decoupage gives them new life and allows you to make treasures from the trash.

This is a thick glass bottle decoupaged with pink roses. One may use it as a vase or as a cooking oil bottle. Or you may pour or wine into it for some special occasion such as Valentine day to create unique table design.

Decoupage ideas: glass plate decoupage how to

It’s one of the decoupage ideas I wanted to do for a good while. I could not find a fitting glass plate for it though.

This plate is decoupaged in traditional Ukraine folk style. What you need for this decoupage project is to find a transparent glass plate. The trick is to decoupage the plate and still leave it usable.

This glass plate is decoupaged on the other side.

Here is how you do it. You clean and dry the plate well first. This gets is ready to be decoupaged. I used PVC glue, you may use mode podge or transparent furniture polish for your decoupage ideas.

Next, you cut out the napkin patterns and place them the best way onto the plate. You glue them the bright side down to the backward of the plate. This way, when you turn the plate around, you can see the pattern through the glass.

Let it dry well. Then you take a sponge and dip it into some colorful, golden, silver or other color acrylic paint. I used silver paint on the edges of the plate. Apply the paint with the gentle strokes of the sponge. Let it dry.

Now use white or any other color paint to cover the entire plate from the back end. Cover up the decoupaged fragments well, too. Let it dry. Finally, cover the back end with more polish to make it water proof. That’s it. It’s a pretty doable decoupage idea on glass, which gives you much space for your creativity.

Paper mache projects: my first handmade doll box

I found this interesting idea for paper mache projects on Youtube. I just fell in love with the handmade paper mache doll box. I have two daughters, so I’ve got many old dolls at home.

Decoupage glue and napkins

Old scarf and some ribbon

I have to admit that it took a while for the paper mache skirt to dry up. I decoupaged it with rose napkins.

I glued the fabric onto the decoupaged surfaces using rubber glue. This paper mache project was not easy to do, but it’s a first paper mache project for me. I love the result.

Recycling crafts: how to make plastic bottle flowers and vase decoupage

This recycling craft project involved both decoupaging and making flowers out of plastic bottles.

I have already made one of such flowers for many handmade box. Here is a list of things you need for this recycling craft how to plastic bottle project:

– Blue and white plastic bottles

– small plastic bottle for the vase

– Mode podge or transparent polish

– Decoupage napkins

– A candle

– A needle

You decoupage the plastic bottle the same way you decoupage the glass bottle. So, I’ll share the step by step how to only for the plastic bottle flowers.

1. Cut the sheet of plastic out of your blue plastic bottle

2. Cut out a paper pattern of the flower and draw it on the plastic. Cut out the plastic flower. You get a flat looking flower there.

3. Light up the candle. Heat up the needle and prick a hole in the middle of your flat flower.

4. Hold the flower by the needle and put it high up over the lighted candle. The heat would bend the plastic and make it look like a real flower. This is the hardest part of your recycled crafts project. You have to figure out the right distance to the candle to bend the plastic, but to prevent it from curling up or burning.

5. Cut out a piece of white plastic out of the white water bottle. It has to around half inch by hold inch in size. Cut one side in thin slices. The other edge should stay whole. Now roll up the plastic and hold it over the candle. This is how you get the heart of your flower.

6. Heat up a knitting needle over a candle and make a bigger hole in the flower to stick the heart through it. That’s it your plastic bottle flower is ready.

This is a pretty easy recycling craft project out of plastic bottle, but you can make amazing things from it.

I have made the decoupaged vase out of juice plastic bottle. You may also use nail polish to decorate the plastic bottle flower and its heart.

Cabinet decoupage tips

I have not been posting for a while. I did not have time to craft. However, I am back with few new projects done. The first one is cabinet decoupage.

cabinet decoupage

Here is an old and ugly cabinet. Initially it was brown, but then repainted in white. Since I have to little kids, soon it turned ugly and dirty white. So, here is what I’ve done to it. I have repainted it putting several layers of white paint on. I decided to make a shabby chick out of it. So, after the last white coat of paint dried up, I have rubbed a wax candle on it. I laid the final coat of paint, decoupaged the cabinet and covered it with several layers of transparent polish.

Old clock decoupage and restoration tutorial

This is one of my early decoupage projects. I had a very old clock. It’s not an antique clock. Rather it is an old Soviet time vintage clock. It’s a wood clock. The wood box has almost fallen apart, so I have to restore it.

wood clock decoupage and restoration

Here is what I got. And here is how this olc clock decoupage project has started. Unfortunately I have lost some of the photos I made. I had to reglue the wooden box of the clock and apart its clock work and dial plate.

wood clock decoupage and restoration

I had to clean and repaint the dial plate. I have also removed all the digits from it. Then I decoupaged it with coffee pattern napkin. I have also placed back all the digits. But, I had to throw away the clock work as it was beyond repair. So, I got a new cheap wall clock, took out its clock work and installed it in this old clock.

I have used the paint scotch to cover up the window pane in the clock and then repainted it with water based white paint. I let it dry and then applied a bit of candle wax on the edges and angles of the wood clock box. Then I have repainted it in a different color, let it dry well and easily scrubbed off some of the paint. That is how you get shabby chic effect on your wood decoupage projects.

Finally, I have decoupaged the wood box in few places and installed the dial plate back into it. I have also covered the clock with few layers of transparent polish. That is it. It’s a pretty simple decoupage and restoration project and clock decoupage tutorial. Since the pendulum in this vintage clock does not work, I plan to use it as my kitchen wall clock and my coffee box, too. I’ll store coffee supplies in it. So, it’s a nice upcycling idea, too.

Glass bottle decoupage tutorial

Here is another glass bottled I have decoupaged and upcycled. I really love this one.And I have a step by step tutorial for it.

glass bottle decoupage tutorial

That is the first step to make. I have repainted the bottle, using a piece of foam and white acrylic paint.

decoupage

This is another one of my decoupage and upcycling projects. It’s upcycling an old pan, but you can see a little piece of foam I usually use for painting things. Unlike the brush, foam does not leave strokes and makes the paint look smooth and even on the decoupaged objects.

The next step is to cut out the napkin pattern for decoupage. Sometimes I try to cut them out carefully, while most of the times I just cut out a larger piece of pattern. Then I wet my fingers and rip off the edges to make them look uneven. This way, your napkin resembles the hand painting on the objects.

glass bottle decoupage tutorial

Here we go. The bottle is almost done. I have decoupaged it with the olive pattern, using transparent all purpose polish. Usually, I put a very sparing amount of polish on the bottle. I use a soft brush to do that. Then, I stick the napkin and add more polish.

You have to cover up the entire bottle with the polish to prevent it from getting water damaged. However, I do not do that untill al the napkin patterns get well dried up. If you touch the napkin or the paint with the wet polish on, they get stuck to your hands and you simply ruin your decoupage projects.

So, let it dry well and then cover up with another polish layer and let it dry again. Here is the final touch to this glass decoupage project tutorial. I added some strokes of silver paint all over the decoupaged bottle.

glass bottle decoupage tutorial

Do you forget to add another layer of polish, once the paint gets dried up. This will prevent your bottle from getting spoiled by water and make it more or less invulnerable to scratches. Even though this glass bottle decoupage tutorial has many steps to follow, it is easy and the actual decoupaging process takes less than half an hour. Although, you have to wait for a while for the paint and polish to dry up.
