My new hobby: handmade flowers, brooches, headbands out of foamiran

This post is going to have many pics in it. I’ve been crafting these flowers for few months and I just love them. Now, Foramiran is a pretty new thing here in Ukraine. It is sort of rubber fabric and it is handy in making flowers and dolls our of  it.

You can actually make any kind of flower of foamiran and the best thing is you do not need any special tools and paints to do it. That is why I love this craft.

Here is one of my flowers – poppy flower composition. It’s a hair clip I made for my daughter to wear to school. Poppy flowers are national Ukraine flowers and they are very fashionable now.

This is sort of fantasy flower, but it kind of resembles magnolia flower (they are blooming now in Kiev).

This flower is also can be used as a hair clip or as a brooch for a scarf. I used white foamiran to make it and I colored it pale pink and green. I really loved the result.

I also love these rosebuds. They are tiny and I made a handmade brooch out of them. I also used white fabric for them and colored them to be pinkish.

This is a sample of wedding decor out of foamiran. It can be used as a pin or to adorn the glasses and bottle. These are jasmine flowers. I have many more to share and maybe I’ll do a quick tutorial in the next post on how make’em. You may find more pics on my other blog or on Pinterest.

Easter decor decoupage tutorial, DIY Easter wreath

I love upcycling and turning trash into treasure. Today I visited my good old friend and found a piece of old wood, some ledge and an old ceramic tile in his backyard. Here is what you can do out of these things. It’s my Easter door decor or wreath for this year and here is the tutorial or how you make it.

This is what I made in 1 hour. It’s  a little bird house our made out of the old piece of wood. I’ll hang it on my door instead of the Easter wreath. This house has a little nest with felted eggs in it. Below the house there is an old tile all decoupaged and I’ll write Easter on it later on.

Here is what I had to start with.

For my Easter decor DIY project I used a pretty small and almost square piece of wood, one old tile, some ledge, rope and a piece of tree bark.

The materials and tools needed for this easy DIY Easter decoupage project:

– white paint

– brown paint

– hot glue gun

– acrylic transparent polish

– a soft brush for decoupage

– napkins

Here the Easter door decor tutorial:

First paint both the tile and the wood (clean them well first) with the white paint and let them dry or dry them using a hairdryer. I glued together two pieces of ledge to form the roof and painted it brown.

Step 2 – Decopuage the tile and the piece of wood. I used two different kinds of napkins. You may find my decoupage how to here.

Step 3 – make a nest. I made it out of rope by coiling and gluing it together for this Easter wreath. I have also felted 3 small eggs out of wool and used green wool inside the nest to imitate the grass.

Step 4 is to cover the decoupage with polish, get it dry and glue the roof onto the bird house.

Step 5 – I glued some rope around the tile to make a frame for it and left the loose ends to fasten it to the bird house. I glued the bark in the bottom part of my Easter decor item and glued the nest onto the bark. I have also used this rope to make a look to hang the Easter door decor. You may find some of my crafting ideas on Pinterest. I have few cool boards there, such as upcycling or decoupage tutorials. You may also find some of the other of my Easter projects on this blog.

Valentine day creative candle idea (mason jar project)

I just love making various decorative candles and candles sticks. Recently I have share a DIY project for the Valentine day – orange shell candles. Here is another easy and fun project for you.

mason jar candle DIY

This is another cute way of decorating a mason jar. This time I used polymer clay and decoupage. I have turned a jar into a little cute house with door and windows.

Using this technique you can decorate a mason jar in any style, including a romantic one suited for Valentine day.

Here is a quick DIY on this mason jar candle:

First I painted the jar with white paint, only I left some blank spaces for the door and windows. Then I decoupaged all the painted surface. Next, I moded polymer clay details and just pressed them against the jar. Finally, I have boiled the jar in a pot for 10 min in order to get my clay firm. You may use a different type of clay that does not require any boiling. Here you go. Pin away and follow me on Pinterest. I have tons of fun projects pinned there.

Easy Valentine day upcycling project: romantic candles out of orange skins

What to make something swell and romantic quick? This is just the thing! These candles look great, smell great and cost you just pennies.

What you need for this Valentine day project:
Few oranges (desirably with thick skins)
Vegetable oil (any kind)
Any natural fabric (you may use an old shirt or gauze)
Little coil of nicely bending thin wire
Spices

Making candles out of orange skins – Valentine day craft
Cut the oranges in half and use a spoon to remove all the insides. All you need is just two halves of the orange skins. You may eat the oranges. Now cut a piece of wire inch long. Make a little loop on one end and stick the other end into the orange skin. Make sure not to pierce it right through, otherwise your candles will leak.

This candle does not look nice on my pic, I did not manage to make a nicer photo, but they surely look when burning.
Cut your fabric into inch long and ¼ inch wide strips. Pour some vegetable oil into the orange skin candles, dip the fabric strips (your wicks) into this oil and adjust them on the wire loops inside the candles. Now you may use some spices, such as cloves, anise tree seeds or cinnamon to decorate your candles and add them aroma.

I have also use few drops of orange aroma oil in my candles. You ready to fire up. These candles are easy to make, but they look fantastic on your Valentine day romantic table or in the bathroom. DIY: glass bottle into romantic candlestick

I love making cute and useful things for my home. One of such things is a candlestick. I have made one out of glass bottle using decoupage. My can has broken it.  Now I used a different technique.  Just before New Year they started to turn off the light in Ukraine for several hours a day. So, it’s a pretty useful thing, too.

Here is what I made out of a small green energy drink glass bottle. I have already used these to make outdoors fire torches. Now, here is my short upcycling DIY course for you.

What you need for this handmade candlestick:

– 1 glass bottle

– hot glue gun

– organic rope or thread

– decorating items

I used hot gun glue to attach the organic thread to the glass bottle. I just rolled the thread around the bottle and glued it in several places. It took me about 10 min to finish this up. It’s pretty easy and the thread or rope doesn not have to lay smoothly on the bottle.

As you may see, it is attached unevenly. In some places you may see the green of the bottle come through. Since it is a romantic candlestick I used some pink crystals and glued them on in several spots.

Then I made a small decoration composition our of handmade fom flowers (I made these rosebuds myself), ribbon and pink veiling. I glued the whole composition together using hot glue gun and then attached it to the candlestick. It serves nicely. The bottle is heavy enough and it does not overturns. I head up the bottom part of the candle a bit and stick it into the bottle hole. That’s how it works. It’s an easy, fun and eco friendly upcycling DIY project.

Handmade vintage frame tutorial

It seems like I have not been posting for eternity. Here is one of my crafting projects: it is a handmade vintage frame. And it is a quick tutorial.

vintage frame tutorial

vintage frame tutorial

This was a cheap one dollar store wooden picture frame.

frame

I have some vintage white and orange material and I torn it into straps and wrapped the frame with them. I used hot glue gun to attach the fabric straps to the frame.

I have also found a vintage photo album. It was 50+ year old. So, I used a piece of its paper for the back of the frame. Then I found some old and vintage photos in my family album. I have used three of vintage pictures for this vintage frame.

The top photo contains white birds on it. The lower one depicts my uncle in his youth and the lower photo has my mother’s friend with an old camera in her hand. So, it’s a love story. Two birds in love, a man and a woman fond of him and taking a picture of her loved one.

I glued the old photos onto the frame and made few rolled fabric flowers to decorate my vintage handmade photo frame.

Handmade jewelry project: a ring and a pendent

This is one of my handmade jewelry projects. Unfortunately I do not have much time to cover them all in my blog. This fabric ring and pendent are the part of one of my refashion projects.

I have bought a pair of huge and ugly green pants at a flea market. I looked exactly like Asterix in them. But I refashioned them into a stylish skirt and a handbag. I had some scrapes left, so I made this fabric jewelry set.

This is my green fabric pendent. It is accompanied by the fabric ring.

Here is my quick how to on this fabric jewelry set. I used coins for the fabric circle bases. I used hot glue gun for attaching the fabric to the coins. I have also used a piece of recycled belt as the base for the pendent. So, this is a go green jewelry project, as I have used only recycled or recycable materials for it.

As you may see, I have used just tiny scrapes of fabric for this jewelry project. Still it does look good and I get many people asking me where I got this set.

Tilda style fabric basket

This is a very easy Tilda style fabric basket sewing project. I have spent about 10 min making this fabric basket. I can use it for storing my make up or for crafting supplies. It’s a small and cute basket.

Tilda style fabric basket

Tilda style fabric basket

Here is a quick how to or tutorial on this Tilda style fabric basket.

You’ll need three layers of fabric for it. I cut out three equal circles. Two of them were made out of this brown fabric and one I cut out of an old sweater for the filling.

Tilda style fabric basket

I put two of the brown circles together and sew them leaving a small hole for everting. Then I everted them and inserted the third circle inside the two. I sew them together make these  squares as you may see on the picture.

Then I used a needle and a thread to sew on the edges of the circle and pulled the thread to ruffle up the circle. Finally, I sew on the lace and made a rolled lace flower for decoration.
