My new hobby: handmade flowers, brooches, headbands out of foamiran

This post is going to have many pics in it. I’ve been crafting these flowers for few months and I just love them. Now, Foramiran is a pretty new thing here in Ukraine. It is sort of rubber fabric and it is handy in making flowers and dolls our of  it.

You can actually make any kind of flower of foamiran and the best thing is you do not need any special tools and paints to do it. That is why I love this craft.

Here is one of my flowers – poppy flower composition. It’s a hair clip I made for my daughter to wear to school. Poppy flowers are national Ukraine flowers and they are very fashionable now.

This is sort of fantasy flower, but it kind of resembles magnolia flower (they are blooming now in Kiev).

This flower is also can be used as a hair clip or as a brooch for a scarf. I used white foamiran to make it and I colored it pale pink and green. I really loved the result.

I also love these rosebuds. They are tiny and I made a handmade brooch out of them. I also used white fabric for them and colored them to be pinkish.

This is a sample of wedding decor out of foamiran. It can be used as a pin or to adorn the glasses and bottle. These are jasmine flowers. I have many more to share and maybe I’ll do a quick tutorial in the next post on how make’em. You may find more pics on my other blog or on Pinterest.

It has a large ring with the adjustable size base and a lace bracelet both adorn with pink and creamy beads and rolled lace flowers. The ring and the bracelet flowers are little less than one inch wide in size.

The lace flower brooch is about two inches in size. The brooch flowers are adjusted to a piece of white and sparkling recycled belt and have a pin on the other side. This handmade jewelry set is appropriate for a wedding or any other special occasion

Tilda style fabric basket

This is a very easy Tilda style fabric basket sewing project. I have spent about 10 min making this fabric basket. I can use it for storing my make up or for crafting supplies. It’s a small and cute basket.

Tilda style fabric basket

Tilda style fabric basket

Here is a quick how to or tutorial on this Tilda style fabric basket.

You’ll need three layers of fabric for it. I cut out three equal circles. Two of them were made out of this brown fabric and one I cut out of an old sweater for the filling.

I put two of the brown circles together and sew them leaving a small hole for everting. Then I everted them and inserted the third circle inside the two. I sew them together make these  squares as you may see on the picture.

Then I used a needle and a thread to sew on the edges of the circle and pulled the thread to ruffle up the circle. Finally, I sew on the lace and made a rolled lace flower for decoration.

It is an easy Tilda style fabric basket project. I just love Tilda toys and already made several of them.

Decoupage ideas: French style glass bottle decoupage

I really love this glass bottle decoupage project. I got this little glass bottle with one flat side and it suggested a wonderful decoupage idea to me.

As you may see, the bottle has Eifel tower on its front side. I used a very nice vintage type of napkin for this decoupage idea.

I have also made a small leather bow for the bottle and attached a short chain with a little silver key to it. So, now I got a nice French style and vintage looking vase made out of recycled glass bottle with decoupage on it.

Jumpers refashion project

This is my first refashion project for kids. I used to love sewing when I was a kid. And I have even taken one year of fashion college, but later on I have all foresaken sewing. The good news is that my husband made me a present: a vintage sewing machine. Here it is:

So, now I have tons of refashion projects to finish. Here is the first one. As usual I have forgotten to take the BEFORE picture. So, this was a jumper of my older girl and she grew out of it. I refashioned it into a dress and a small handbag.

I had a very colorful top I got for the daughter on a sale. It surely looked nice on the store shelf, but it did not fit her well. So, I used it for this jumper refashion.

The top had ruffles on it, so I used them at the bottom on the dress and on the pockets.

I have made a small handbag out of the scraps of the jumper and decorated it with a rolled fabric flower made out of the top.

I have also made a headband out of the top. So, now my girl got a colorful set of things instead of one old jumper. It’s an easy refashion project and a great way to go green.

Decoupage ideas: bunny jar

This is one of my latest decoupage projects I really love. It’s decoupage on glass with a napkin. It’s a bunny jar.

bunny far

This is a larger size glass jar. It used to lay around in the barn. I cleaned it and decoupaged with bunny napkin.

Here is a quick decoupage on glass tutorial:

– Repaint the glass jar first with acrylic paint. It’s really hard to decoupage on glass, if you do not paint it first. The napkins soak up fast and get easily torn.

– Once the paint dries up, you can start decoupaging. I use transparent furniture polish instead of glue. First I sparingly apply the polish onto the painted glass. Then I put the napkin on and add more polish to get it stick to the jar.

bunny jar2

As you may see here, I have made a little dint in the napkin right above the rabbit. Later on I dubbed it with little bit of white paint.

– Finally, you cover up the entire jar with more polish. It makes it hard to damage the decoupage and you can wash it.

I have also decoupaged the metal lid of the jar.

I have also repainted it before decoupaging. Then I added a ribbon as a final touch. Now I store sugar in this decoupaged glass jar. Follow me on Pinterest and check out my Etsy store.

Recycled crafts: planters ideas

If you like growing plants in your home or outdoors, you need lots of planters. The good thing is that you can easily upcycle, recycle or decorate many things to turn them into planters. Or you can get some cheap and ugly planters and decorate them. Here are few ideas on containers or planters I have decorated or made.

recycled planterq

recycled planter

This was a plastic paint can. Plus, it was cracked in the bottom. I have used a piece of vintage fabric from my grandma’s attic for decoration. I glued it onto the container using a hot glue gun. Then I made some rolled fabric flowers and used a ribbon for decoration. The cracked bottom is not a problem, if you keep the planter outdoors. This is a great way to remove excessive water from the recycled planter. It’s an easy way to go green.

fabric flowers

fabric flowers coiled rope planter

This is organic rope and I made a coiled rope basket out of it. Then I have cut the bottom part of a plastic bottle, decoupaged it and inserted it inside the basket. So, now it’s a planter.

cute flower pots

THese are the old baby shoes I was sorry to throw away. So, again I used plastic bottles to turn them into planters.

This is a collection of the go green planters. The ones on the left are made out of milk packages. The ones in the middle are two cracked cups. The one on the right is a regular flower pot. I was ugly and brown. It’s a cheap planter. So, I decoupaged it and crocheted the edges over with some organic rope.

Here is another example of how you can transform a simple flower pot into a nice looking one using decoupage.

As you may see, there are many things you can turn into planters. Check out my Pinerest Gardening board for more ideas.

How to make fabric flowers

I just love fabric flowers. There are many great things about them. They look great and you can make them out of fabric scraps. You can recycle and upcycle fabric making fabric flowers. Here are few examples of what I have made this far:

fabric flowers

fabric flowers

This is a vintage looking fabric flower bouquet. These are rolled fabric flowers. I use hot glue gun to make these. You have to learn to roll the fabric to make these. First, you make a strip of fabric. Then you take it by one end and make a bend in it and form the heart of the flower. Then you roll it away from you and twist.

You put a dub of glue to make it hold together and keep on rolling and twisting.

I have glued these fabric flowers onto wooden sticks and rolled them up in an old book page.

fabric flowers

fabric flowers

You can use two strips of fabric together to make a bigger and fancier flower. Or, you can add a ribbon to the strip of fabric and roll them together to make two colored fabric flowers.

fabric flowers

This is a lace rolled flower I used to decorate a tint can. You roll it the same way, as you do wiht the fabric flowers.

As you may see, you can decorate so many things with fabric flowers, such as this rope basket.

This is a two colored fabric flower I have made for the crocheted fabric tea pot mat. You can use all sorts of beads or buttons to decorate your fabric flowers.

They are lovely and easy to make. You can use fabric flowers to make headbands, jewelry, you can use them to decorate  flower pots or picture frames. Or you can make fabric flower boquets. This is an easy and go green craft.
