I have already shared red poppy flower hair clip and wreath I made for them. I just love making different fabric flowers. Now I have embroidered this cute hair clip heart.

I used a stitch we call French knot. It is used in ribbon embroidery, as well as when you embroider with threads. You attain a special effect using this stitch. Your embroidery becomes sort of 3D. This handmade hair clip heart is very curly and nice to touch.

DIY flower headband for kids with felted fabric flowers

I love making headbands. This one is made in ethnic style or Ukraine style with red poppy flowers.

DIY headband

ethinic trim headband

This headband is made out of Ukraine ethnic trim you can get in my Etsy store. The base for it is made after recycled crafts, cause I used a piece of plastic bottle as a foundation for the headband.

Here is how the headband is made. Step by step DIY

I cut out a piece of plastic and used hot glue gun to attach trim to it. First I applied wider piece of the trim and them added a narrower one on the top from the front side.

Next, I placed to wooden bids on 2 pieces of ribbon and tied knots on one end of the ribbon. The other end was attached to the headband using glue gun. These are the headband strips used to hold in on one’s head.

I have used a piece of felt to cover up the other side of the headband and hide the plastic. I glued it there with the hot glue gun. Finally, I have made a small red poppy flower bouquet out of felt. Each flower consists out of 4 heart shape petals glued together. I attached them to the headband with the glue. You can find more photos of this DIY here. This is my youngest daughter Kira wearing a wreath of poppy flowers made out of ribbon. I love poppies. They are so Ukrainian. You can find them growing on your fields or on the sides of the roads.

We had our apple harvest day at home. She just loves wearing poppies and I do too.

It works just well at a purse clip, hair clip or scarf clip for me.  I make these out of silk like ribbons and the heart of the flower is all handcrafted after the old “grandma” fashion. When I first discovered how to craft those tiny black threads with white ends I was much surprised. But they do make poppies look so natural. Visit my Etsy shop or write me today to get your poppy fower clip or wreath.

Handmade vintage frame tutorial

It seems like I have not been posting for eternity. Here is one of my crafting projects: it is a handmade vintage frame. And it is a quick tutorial.

This was a cheap one dollar store wooden picture frame.

frame

I have some vintage white and orange material and I torn it into straps and wrapped the frame with them. I used hot glue gun to attach the fabric straps to the frame.

I have also found a vintage photo album. It was 50+ year old. So, I used a piece of its paper for the back of the frame. Then I found some old and vintage photos in my family album. I have used three of vintage pictures for this vintage frame.

The top photo contains white birds on it. The lower one depicts my uncle in his youth and the lower photo has my mother’s friend with an old camera in her hand. So, it’s a love story. Two birds in love, a man and a woman fond of him and taking a picture of her loved one.

I glued the old photos onto the frame and made few rolled fabric flowers to decorate my vintage handmade photo frame.

White lace flower brooch, bracelet and ring

This is a set I have made out of recycled lace, so it is a refashion project.

This vintage looking creamy lace flower jewelry set is fitting for many occasions. It consists of a three flower lace brooch with pink and creamy large bead in the center. It has a large ring with the adjustable size base and a lace bracelet both adorn with pink and creamy beads and rolled lace flowers. The ring and the bracelet flowers are little less than one inch wide in size.

The lace flower brooch is about two inches in size. The brooch flowers are adjusted to a piece of white and sparkling recycled belt and have a pin on the other side. This handmade jewelry set is appropriate for a wedding or any other special occasion

Part of the flowers here are rolled out of lace. The set looks vintage and very sophisticated. You may find it in my Etsy shop recycledcrafting.

How to make fabric flowers

I just love fabric flowers. There are many great things about them. They look great and you can make them out of fabric scraps. You can recycle and upcycle fabric making fabric flowers. Here are few examples of what I have made this far:

fabric flowers

fabric flowers

This is a vintage looking fabric flower bouquet. These are rolled fabric flowers. I use hot glue gun to make these. You have to learn to roll the fabric to make these. First, you make a strip of fabric. Then you take it by one end and make a bend in it and form the heart of the flower. Then you roll it away from you and twist.

You put a dub of glue to make it hold together and keep on rolling and twisting.

I have glued these fabric flowers onto wooden sticks and rolled them up in an old book page.

You can use two strips of fabric together to make a bigger and fancier flower. Or, you can add a ribbon to the strip of fabric and roll them together to make two colored fabric flowers.

This is a lace rolled flower I used to decorate a tint can. You roll it the same way, as you do wiht the fabric flowers.

As you may see, you can decorate so many things with fabric flowers, such as this rope basket.

This is a two colored fabric flower I have made for the crocheted fabric tea pot mat. You can use all sorts of beads or buttons to decorate your fabric flowers.

They are lovely and easy to make. You can use fabric flowers to make headbands, jewelry, you can use them to decorate  flower pots or picture frames. Or you can make fabric flower boquets. This is an easy and go green craft.

Plastic bottle crafts and fabric flower jewelry

Plastic bottles seem to be everywhere. And it is a great idea to recycle or upcycle them into useful items instead of throwing them away. Another advantage of plastic bottle crafts is their affordability. Still, you can create awesome designs using plastic bottles. Check out my plastic bottle baskets for instance.

But here we’ll take a look at creating jewelry using plastic bottles and pieces of fabric.

This is a set of handmade jewelry in blue: a plastic bottle crocheted over bracelet adorn with rolled fabric roses and a brooch.

Here is a quick DIY tutorial for the plastic bottle bracelet. Cut out a slice of plastic bottle. Prick or melt holes on the edges of it. Then crochet it over with yarn. Done. It’s that easy. You can use color plastic bottle instead of transparent one. White plastic bottles can be easily decoupaged with napkins to make them look even better.

Now you can decorate your plastic bottle craft with flowers and lace. I used blue fabric to rolled these roses of and glued them to the plastic bottle bracelet.

fabric flower brooch

Now comes the blue brooch. It’s very easy to make. You cut out a paper circle pattern of the size you like. Then you cut out at least four fabric circles, fold them in four and glue them with hot glue gun or stitch them to the base. Then you may use beads, lace or ribbons to decorate your flower brooch. Glue the pin at the back side and it’s done.

Recycled crafts and deoupage ideas: shabby chic craft supply basket

I have to admit that I simply love this craft supply basket. I have lots of ribbons and beads and I urgently needed a basket to store them in. Here is what I made out of an old paint plastic can with a lid.

shabby chic craft supply basket

This was an ugly white plastic one pound can of paint. Here is how the recycling and transformation has take place. It’s a decoupage idea, because first I decoupaged the basket with mild orange napkin. I decoupaged both the lid and the outer walls of the can.

I let it dry and used hot glue gun to wrap it up with a piece of lace. I got this lace just for few cents on our local flea market. The bottom of the shabby chic craft supply basket was not nice and it had the sticking up ends of lace. So, I used some recycled pieces of blue purse to cut out a circle and cover it up.

Then I made tissue roses and leaves and decorated the shabby chic craft supply basket.

These rolled fabric roses look nice and they are easy to make. I may share the  quick tutorial in the next post. Take a look at some of the other recycled baskets I have made and order one for your jewelry or supplies.
