DIY: glass bottle into romantic candlestick

I love making cute and useful things for my home. One of such things is a candlestick. I have made one out of glass bottle using decoupage. My can has broken it.  Now I used a different technique.  Just before New Year they started to turn off the light in Ukraine for several hours a day. So, it’s a pretty useful thing, too.

Here is what I made out of a small green energy drink glass bottle. I have already used these to make outdoors fire torches. Now, here is my short upcycling DIY course for you.

What you need for this handmade candlestick:

– 1 glass bottle

– hot glue gun

– organic rope or thread

– decorating items

I used hot gun glue to attach the organic thread to the glass bottle. I just rolled the thread around the bottle and glued it in several places. It took me about 10 min to finish this up. It’s pretty easy and the thread or rope doesn not have to lay smoothly on the bottle.

As you may see, it is attached unevenly. In some places you may see the green of the bottle come through. Since it is a romantic candlestick I used some pink crystals and glued them on in several spots.

Then I made a small decoration composition our of handmade fom flowers (I made these rosebuds myself), ribbon and pink veiling. I glued the whole composition together using hot glue gun and then attached it to the candlestick. It serves nicely. The bottle is heavy enough and it does not overturns. I head up the bottom part of the candle a bit and stick it into the bottle hole. That’s how it works. It’s an easy, fun and eco friendly upcycling DIY project.

Door repurposing: hanging garden table out of old wooden door DIY

I really love this door repurposing project. I always dreamed to get a hanging table in my garden pavilion, finally I have one. Here it is:

wooden hanging table

I love just the way it looks and feels, this repurposed door table is very usable. As you may see on this pic, it is coupled by a bench made out of an old door too. Here is a quick DIY course for it.

The table is fit into our summer pavilion, so we already had wooden planks to fasten it to. You may attach it to a strong tree outdoors.

What you need for this DIY door repurposing project:

1 old wooden door

Drill

Spade bit

Level

Strong rope or chain

Indeed, this is a very easy project, if you have the right equipment for it. The trick is to use a special kind of drill bit for making holes in the door. I am not sure how this tool is called in English, but I’ll provide you with its picture.

This is what it looks like. If you know its proper name, please add a comment to this post and I’ll add it in. – I have been able to find out what the proper name of the tool is. It is called spade wood bit. I asked a question on HOMETALK and got many great answers. You may join this great community and follow me there, too http://www.hometalk.com/busymomhelp.

You need to pick the tool of the right size to match your rope or chain diameter. We used organic rope for this project. It is strong enough and it looks so nice coupling the old door shabby chick surface.

Basically, my husband has drilled 4 holes in the 4 corners of the table, put in the rope and made large and strong knots on the rope from the bottom side to fasten it. Then he tied the rope to the pavilion roof.

This is what the surface of the old wooden door looks like. I still did not have time to sand it well and cover it with polish. But it wears nicely. My kids sometimes use the table as a swing and it holds perfectly. The tip is to use solid wood old door, so it can stand any type of weather outdoors.

This is an easy and quick repurposing project. I love hanging tables and it took just 2-3 hours for my husband to make it. You are welcome to pin or share this projects and check out on my other DIY or upcycling projects.

DIY project: playhouse with slide

This is one of my husband’s wood DIY projects: a playhouse with a slide. It did save us lots of money and it has given our kids lots of fun to play with it.

Here is this wooden playhouse with a slide, two swings and sandpit.

You may see only one swing on the right, but there is a tire swing next to it there. As you may see, the sandpit is below the house, so kids can play there during sunny and hot hours or when it rains. The playhouse is made of wood and the slide is made of zinc coated iron.

Here is how this wood playhouse DIY project has started:

And, here is the kind of fun we have with it now:

We have placed a PVC pool underneath the slide. Poured the water in and got our mini aqua park at home with this wooden playhouse with a slide.

Here we have some grand splashes in the pool!

This DIY wooden playhouse project has save us lots of money, too. If we were to buy it ready made, we had to pay around $ 3 – 5 000! For the DIY project my husband had to buy some wood and iron, sand and nails, etc. But, roughly estimated, this DIY playhouse cost amount to less than $1 000. So, that’s a lot of money saved.

And, we have all the ‘white envy’ of our neighbours. They all really love this playhouse. When we have a church home group meeting, they love to have it over at our house, because we can let kids run and play and they let us pray and fellowship.
