More decoupage ideas: decoupage on plastic bottle – making a plastic bottle vase

I find it no harder to decoupage on plastic, then it is to decoupage on glass or wood. Here is a nice decoupage idea for you: making a plastic bottle vase:

This is a milk plastic bottle. It’s made out of transparent plastic. You can go ahead and decoupage right on it. But in my experience transparent, green or brown plastic bottles do not turn out well that way. So, first you have to paint the part of the bottle or the entire plastic bottle you wish to decoupage.

I used white paint for this decoupage idea and painted only a middle part of the plastic bottle.

Then when the paint has dried up I decoupaged it over with spring flower napkin. I used glue for this project. Sometimes I use transparent furniture polish.

I pricked holes on the top part of the plastic bottle vase. Then I crochet it over with green yarn.

Then I glued the silver ribbon using thermal glue. I have put some of the colored salt inside the vase, as I am planning to use it in my bathroom to store brushes in.

As the plastic bottle vase is very light, it easily turn over. The salt makes it look even nicer and makes it stand firm. That’s an easy to do DIY decoupage idea and a good idea for recycling crafting.

Paper mache projects: my first handmade doll box

I found this interesting idea for paper mache projects on Youtube. I just fell in love with the handmade paper mache doll box. I have two daughters, so I’ve got many old dolls at home.

I have to admit that it took a while for the paper mache skirt to dry up. I decoupaged it with rose napkins.

I glued the fabric onto the decoupaged surfaces using rubber glue. This paper mache project was not easy to do, but it’s a first paper mache project for me. I love the result.

Recycling crafts: how to make plastic bottle flowers and vase decoupage

This recycling craft project involved both decoupaging and making flowers out of plastic bottles.

I have already made one of such flowers for many handmade box. Here is a list of things you need for this recycling craft how to plastic bottle project:

– Blue and white plastic bottles

– small plastic bottle for the vase

– Mode podge or transparent polish

– Decoupage napkins

– A candle

– A needle

You decoupage the plastic bottle the same way you decoupage the glass bottle. So, I’ll share the step by step how to only for the plastic bottle flowers.

1. Cut the sheet of plastic out of your blue plastic bottle

2. Cut out a paper pattern of the flower and draw it on the plastic. Cut out the plastic flower. You get a flat looking flower there.

3. Light up the candle. Heat up the needle and prick a hole in the middle of your flat flower.

4. Hold the flower by the needle and put it high up over the lighted candle. The heat would bend the plastic and make it look like a real flower. This is the hardest part of your recycled crafts project. You have to figure out the right distance to the candle to bend the plastic, but to prevent it from curling up or burning.

5. Cut out a piece of white plastic out of the white water bottle. It has to around half inch by hold inch in size. Cut one side in thin slices. The other edge should stay whole. Now roll up the plastic and hold it over the candle. This is how you get the heart of your flower.

6. Heat up a knitting needle over a candle and make a bigger hole in the flower to stick the heart through it. That’s it your plastic bottle flower is ready.

This is a pretty easy recycling craft project out of plastic bottle, but you can make amazing things from it.

Christmas theme glass bottle decoupage project

Christmas is not far away and I got some nice blue Christmas theme napkins to decoupage some of the Christmas gifts. This is another one of my glass bottle decoupages.

Christmas theme glass bottle decoupage

I will not be share the decoupage how to here, as you may find it on my other posts. I’ll tell you how to make the snow effect on your glass bottle decoupage.

Christmas theme glass bottle decoupage

You may see something that looks like snow on this Christmas gift decoupaged glass bottle. Here is how I make it.

After I finish up the decoupaging process and cover up the bottle with polish, I let it dry. Then I apply PVC glue to the spots, where I want the snow effect. Then I put some salt on it and let it dry. It’s that simple. Once it dries up well, I remove  extra salt. It looks great and it’s easy indeed. This is a great way to use recycled craft to make some Christmas gifts. Glass bottle decoupage is easy, but it makes wonders with ordinary things.

Glass jar crochet decoration and upcycling idea for your kitchen

I have done various glass jar and glass bottle decoupage project. Now it’s time for a crochet decoration and upcycling idea for a glass jar for my kitchen.

Crochet glass jar

I love to have handmade and upcycled things in my home. They do turn your house into a home, don’t they?

I had this nice little jar with the lid for it. So, I crocheted a cover for it, sort of a crocheted vase to match the jar. I have also crochet a flower for it.
Plus I have decorated the jar lid with a piece of old and vintage looking lace. I had to pull a thread through the holes in it and then I glued the lace to the lid using super glue.

Now once I have upcycled this little glass jar I can keep my tea in it. It took me less than an hour to fix and decorate the jar for my kitchen.

Another glass bottle decoupage project

The best thing about decoupage is its affordability. I’ve got a nice large olive oil bottle. Of course it’s been long since I used up all the original oil from it, but I still use it for my plant oil in the kitchen. As you may read it here keeping your plant oil in a plastic bottle is not a good idea. So, I always pour it into the glass one after I open it up.

I have already once decoupaged this bottle, but it got oily and messy over a time. So, I just decided to redo it.

glass bottle decoupage

I’ve this new nice napkin flower pattern and I have already used it to decoupage my old cabinet. I cleaned the bottle. I did not remove the old paint layers from it. I just rubbed some sandpaper on it to help the new paint get better adjusted to the bottle. And I removed the old grease using window cleaning spray.

Then I repainted the bottle and decoupaged it all anew. Now it looks of refreshed and nice once again.

Cabinet decoupage tips

I have not been posting for a while. I did not have time to craft. However, I am back with few new projects done. The first one is cabinet decoupage.

cabinet decoupage

Here is an old and ugly cabinet. Initially it was brown, but then repainted in white. Since I have to little kids, soon it turned ugly and dirty white. So, here is what I’ve done to it. I have repainted it putting several layers of white paint on. I decided to make a shabby chick out of it. So, after the last white coat of paint dried up, I have rubbed a wax candle on it. I laid the final coat of paint, decoupaged the cabinet and covered it with several layers of transparent polish.

Old clock decoupage and restoration tutorial

This is one of my early decoupage projects. I had a very old clock. It’s not an antique clock. Rather it is an old Soviet time vintage clock. It’s a wood clock. The wood box has almost fallen apart, so I have to restore it.

wood clock decoupage and restoration

Here is what I got. And here is how this olc clock decoupage project has started. Unfortunately I have lost some of the photos I made. I had to reglue the wooden box of the clock and apart its clock work and dial plate.

wood clock decoupage and restoration

I had to clean and repaint the dial plate. I have also removed all the digits from it. Then I decoupaged it with coffee pattern napkin. I have also placed back all the digits. But, I had to throw away the clock work as it was beyond repair. So, I got a new cheap wall clock, took out its clock work and installed it in this old clock.

clock decoupage tutorial

I have used the paint scotch to cover up the window pane in the clock and then repainted it with water based white paint. I let it dry and then applied a bit of candle wax on the edges and angles of the wood clock box. Then I have repainted it in a different color, let it dry well and easily scrubbed off some of the paint. That is how you get shabby chic effect on your wood decoupage projects.

clock decoupage tutorial

Finally, I have decoupaged the wood box in few places and installed the dial plate back into it. I have also covered the clock with few layers of transparent polish. That is it. It’s a pretty simple decoupage and restoration project and clock decoupage tutorial. Since the pendulum in this vintage clock does not work, I plan to use it as my kitchen wall clock and my coffee box, too. I’ll store coffee supplies in it. So, it’s a nice upcycling idea, too.
